The Other Theme 2

The purpose of this picture was to convey a girl that is dissatisfied with her own physical appearance. The reflection she is seeing in the picture is how she sees herself: face distorted and not beautiful. The emotion in her eyes say that she is dissatisfied with herself and that she has low self esteem. In reality she is beautiful as can be but the broken mirror symbolizes the broken standards of today's society and its elitist nature.
My intention for this particular picture was to omit a dark mood and I think I have accomplished that by ridding the color on the face and avoiding any bright light. I also think that the sharp edges add a nice touch.

This picture only altered my idea for a bit. I am now more intent on portraying people's reflections of themselves in a distorted fashion.

The Other Theme 1

My original idea was about self reflection in where the model would use mirrors or some form of object that has a reflection. My intent for the first picture was to take a picture of my model whilst they were looking at themselves through a mirror. As my shot progressed, the kind of pictures I was taking went from my model looking at himself through a mirror to experimenting with the way his face looks with the way the mirror is positioned. The pictures started looking distorted and I was unusually intrigued with they way they turned out. I started to try out different angles with half of his face cut off and me shooting from an angle that conjoin his eyes together making it no longer look like a human.

My idea has changed constantly while trying to compose this image. I had gone from taking a picture that was meant to show emotion to a picture that distorted the face. Since my idea did not seem to be working so well, I decided to experiment with the angle of the mirror and see how much his face would change if I took it at another angle. The result turned out better than what I had originally planned. I think that with this 'discovery' I decided that I would try and take pictures portraying distorted faces.
