This model is one of my oldest and closest friend. Knowing her personally definitely helped in directing her in a more straight-forward manner. Unlike the other models, she is not as uncomfortable or awkward with me and I think that could both be good or bad. Shooting her was less of a challenge for me and usually I try to avoid using my friends as models, not because I don't wwant but because they simply do not fit the type I am looking for. Knowing Mary Grace for a lot type helps since I have knowledge of her ever so visible stare. She has big doe eyes and often times when she stares, heer expressipns are blank. Another reason why I picked her because she really personifies my theme of putting up a facade; to those who don't know her, she is this shy and quiet girl, but to me she is this boisterous and ever so amiable friend. The funny thing about this picture is that I didn't tell her I was taking the picture, this expression is as natural as it gets.

Oh Ms. Katz, another person reluctant to have their picture taken. After Ms. Miles suggested her, I felt that she was perfect. It was almost like a light bulb went off in my head. I hope Ms. Katz does not mind when she sees her picture like this but I really love the way this turned out because you could see the subtle resentment in her eyes. The way her lips are pursed almost seemed like she regrets the time that she agreed to have her picture taken. The mirrors definitely intensified her flustered expressions and this shoot just gave me a confidence boost on my next pictures. I have a cleared idea on my idea and how I am going to portray them, this shoot has helped me come into that realization and I am happy about that.

Senior Ex. 4

Another appearance by Mr. sixth grader. He was the inspiration behind my (once again) altered idea of using shy people as my models. I felt that using people that are camera shy would add a diffirent appeal to my theme. I felt that the more awkward and reluctant a person is, the better. His unusual features help examplify the meaning that I wanted to portray with thiss series and I feel that bringing in people of the shyer kind would diffirentiate the way the series is portrayed.

The Otha Theme: AWKWARD 5

This poor little six grader's name is Brandon ( I think). I found him outside a classroom waiting to go inside on a cold morning and approached him ever so intimidatingly. With fear and the need to run away ever so visible in his face, I knew he would be perfect for my my theme. I asked the help of my friend, Karl and Henry (who are both equally awkward) to help little Brandon out. Instead of making him more relaxed, he ended up looking more uncomfortable; the resulting picture turned out this gem where the awkwardness just seemed to ooze out into the screen.

I have to say to that I am so happy with all the different kinds of emotions, expressions that I am getting throughout this whole process. Instead of doing the traditional kinds of emotions( happy, sad, angry, etc.) I wanted to opt for more unconventional kinds of expressions. With these expressions I think the effect comes off far stronger than when they have basic expressions. I did not plan on Cleve having this kind expression and we have tried various kinds before he accidentally showed the gem that became this picture. I love how most of the faces that I have used are more natural and not posed, they are the type that I stumble on during that period between the time I am trying to pose them and my model reverting back to their natural face. I have decided that with the way things are going, I will look for more diverse expressions with my models to achieve different kinds of effects.

Senior Ex. 2

I was really satisfied with this photoshoot and how it turned out. I love the fact that she came off looking a bit sinister and creepy. My intention was to show a girl filled with joy and I think that Taylr was the perfect model to express that kind of emotion. Before the 'alterations', her face looks cute, simple, and happy; but the 'alterations' afterwards added a different effect. She almost resembles the Joker in some sorts: broken up and unusually merry. This shoot contributes to my theme in a way that it still shows deformity and some sort of struggle despite her looking happy.

This picture seems like Mark's face was peeled off or broken and it leaves the audience really bewildered as to what happened. I am overjoyed with the way this photoshoot turned out and I am excited with how people are going to react once they see this picture. Instead of using different angles like I did previously, I have decided to take pictures in a straightforward angle from now on.

Senior Ex. 8

This shoot was the the first of my new and improved idea. Originally, my idea was to use mirrors to show deformity, but after a certain epiphany I had, it changed. After browsing through a photoshop book, I stumbled upon this page that showing different ways to use layers. You could say that a lightbulb went off in my head when I saw that page and I decided to experiment with that tool. I have to say that I was really happy with the way these picture have turned out and I think that I will be using this tool from now on.

The Other Theme 4

This picture is a little bit different because usually my picture only has one person in them but in this one there is two. The mirrors I used for this shoot was a bunch of mirrors that I had broken prior and comprised into one overall face. The whole of the piece is not visible in this picture as I did not need all of it but I originally wanted to show their faces along with all of the mirrors. I decided to experiment with this shoot and try shooting my models at a different angle. I have to say that it was quite difficult at first trying to capture their faces as a whole because what you see with the naked eye is different from what you see behind the lens. Overall I was quite satisfied with the outcome from this shoot because I was able to achieve a variety of expressions and pictures with different results.

The Other Theme 3

The original idea for this photoshoot was to display a boy who doesn't quite know what he wants. He is still on a journey to find himself, hence why he is looking upwards with a wandering look in his eyes. The broken mirrors symbolize the incompleteness of his being.

The way that only half of his face is lighted while the other succumbs into the darkness shows that he has not yet achieved his quest.

Lighting this particular piece was quite challenging as I was shooting in a very compact space. Finding the right angle also made it difficult, but I ended up being satisfied with the outcome. I feel that the way his left eye was hidden in the shadows, and the way his right eye shows up adds to the effect that I am trying to get across.

After this shoot, I have decided to ring in other materials such as chairs to help me come with more angles.
